Nestled in La Mesa, our residential care home offers the warmth of family living alongside the safety, structure, and professional oversight that families and care partners can trust.
We're a licensed Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE), operating under California Title 22 and Community Care Licensing. But what sets us apart isn't a license number — it's the way we treat every resident as a member of our own family.
Our Story
Mount Helix Senior Living is the newest chapter in a story built on family, experience, and a genuine love for caring for others.
It began with Vanessa Nunez, who brought together extensive experience in the health sector and more than a decade in Human Resources with a simple goal: to build a home where older adults are cared for with the dignity and warmth they deserve. That vision grew into Sunset Coast Assisted Living, founded with her business partner in 2020, where Vanessa built the administrative and operational foundation that a truly caring home depends on.
Over the past two years, Karina Lopez has grown into a trusted administrator and leader, running day-to-day operations with dedication and heart. Her hands-on commitment to residents and staff alike made her a natural partner in what came next.
Together, Vanessa and Karina are now opening a home of their own: Mount Helix Senior Living — the natural next step in everything they've learned and built. It's a home shaped by their shared belief that seniors deserve personalized, compassionate care in a place that feels like family.

Karina Lopez — Co-Owner & Administrator
Karina brings hands-on leadership and a warm, personal touch to Mount Helix Senior Living. Over the past five years, she has led day-to-day operations with dedication and heart, earning the trust of residents, families, and staff alike. She's dedicated to creating a home where every resident feels comfortable, respected, and genuinely cared for, day in and day out.
Vanessa Nunez — Co-Owner & Administrator
Vanessa combines experience in the health sector with more than a decade in Human Resources — a background that shapes the way Mount Helix is run, from its care standards to its team. She founded Sunset Coast Assisted Living in 2020 and built its administrative and operational foundation from the ground up. At Mount Helix Senior Living, that same experience drives her focus: making sure every resident receives care that's as attentive and individual as they are.
